Muscovites were actively buying up memberships to fitness clubs before the New Year holidays. Demand increased by 25-30%. Market participants told Kommersant FM about this. At the same time, according to FitnessData analysts, over the past year the cost of services increased by an average of 12%. In 2024, price increases may be the same.

During the New Year period, most Muscovites choose cards with a duration of three to six months. This trend was confirmed in Kommersant FM fitness club networks:

PR Director of World Class fitness clubs Elena Kirilenko: “In December 2023, we note an increase in demand for season ticket sales by an average of 30% compared to the same period in 2022. There are a number of reasons for this: the search for gifts, the promises that many of us make to ourselves, for example, to start a new life in the New Year. And where to start it, if not in a fitness club? But in the last year and a half, some customers began to prefer purchasing so-called short subscriptions lasting three to six months. We can even talk about a certain trend in the industry.”

CEO of Orange Fitness and City Fitness Anastasia Yusina: “Many people believe that the New Year is some kind of formal reason to start a new life. Before the New Year holidays, many people buy cards, including for themselves, saying, activate it for me on January 10, I will begin to lead the very healthy lifestyle that I have always dreamed of. A tradition, a trend, we see it all the time. But it cannot be said that this year there is any increase compared to last year.”

President of the National Fitness Community Elena Silina: “Demand rises by 20-25%. Compared to the previous year, it is 12-15% more. Another question is that then some apply for a refund or suspension. Plus, there is a percentage of people who think for a long time, 15-20% one way or another postpone the start of training. The big question is whether they will come back. According to some statistics, we are losing about 20% of our base – these are people who buy a subscription and don’t come.”

As Kommersant FM previously reported, at the end of 2023, the turnover of Russian fitness clubs exceeded 170 billion rubles, which is almost 12% more than in 2022. At the same time, attendance at the halls also increased – by 8.5%.
