Wanted Vitaly Mansky is unlikely to receive a real term

The director has been living in Riga for a long time
Three months ago, director Vitaly Mansky said in an interview with Ksenia Sobchak that the budget was being plundered at the Moscow Film Festival, and he called the show itself a “profanity.” MIFF director Nikita Mikhalkov wrote a libel statement against Mansky. As a result, Vitaly Mansky was put on the federal wanted list. For the last few years he has been living in Riga. Why did the reaction to the accusations of the cinematographer follow only after the end of the 44th film review and is he in danger of being arrested?
– Since Mansky is accused of committing a crime under Art. 128.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (slander), it should be noted that this type of violation is a crime of minor gravity, – lawyer Yulia Verbitskaya says to MK. – The likelihood of Mansky receiving a real term associated with deprivation or restriction of freedom is minimal.
Since Mansky lives outside the Russian Federation, the investigating authorities will have serious problems associated with the commission of investigative actions. Probably, this is precisely what caused the application of a measure of procedural coercion – putting Mansky on the wanted list.
– Why do you think the application for Vitaly Mansky was filed only now, three months after his hard-hitting words about the Moscow Film Festival? Could this be related to some procedural issues?
– Probably, the investigation, as always, does not work quickly, but thoroughly. Perhaps, due to the personality of the applicant, the case is under special control of the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It should be noted that in similar cases and statements, the likelihood of initiating a criminal case is extremely low. For this reason, we can assume “exceptional” attention to the case, associated with the personality of the defendants.
