For the first time, VTB conducted operations to open accounts in digital rubles in its mobile application, as well as to transfer and pay in this form of national currency. According to a press release from the credit institution, VTB became the first bank in Russia to successfully test operations with digital rubles.
According to the press service of VTB, on the first day of testing, participants in the focus group, which was formed from bank employees, tested operations for opening accounts in digital rubles, transfers between individuals, as well as operations for payment by digital rubles by QR code. VTB clarified that the possibility of using smart contracts with a digital ruble for individuals will be available later.
VTB Board Member Svyatoslav Ostrovsky noted that the digital ruble will improve the security of money transfers thanks to a multi-stage system of protection against fraudsters. “Thanks to the unique technology of a single digital account, transfer transactions will be available to retail customers without commission. Moreover, it will be possible not only to set up auto payments in digital rubles, pre-setting the date, amount and their recipient, but also pay for the necessary goods and services in the usual way – using a QR code,” he added.
Conducting real transactions with the digital ruble for individuals and legal entities in Russia started today August 15. Operations can be carried out using a special information system. The Bank of Russia has been appointed its operator. For citizens, transactions with the digital ruble will be free, for businesses – 0.3% of the payment amount.
