State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that on Monday, May 22, the State Duma Council will consider a ban on entry into Russia for Polish trucks. In his opinion, if the ban is adopted, Poland could lose up to €8.5 billion.

“In addition, it would be right to prohibit Poland from profiting from Russia today: to stop the passage of Polish trucks through the territory of our country. Let them reload the goods onto Russian trucks,” Mr. Volodin wrote in his Telegram.

In his opinion, Poland’s costs from the adoption of the ban will amount to €8.5 billion. Viacheslav Volodin believes that 2,000 Polish transport companies that employ more than 20,000 drivers may go bankrupt.

Viacheslav Volodin stated that “Poland has betrayed historical memory.” “A third of the current Polish territories – areas with developed infrastructure, industrial enterprises, as well as rich in natural resources – became part of it after the Second World War only thanks to our country,” he wrote. In his opinion, “the Poles act meanly” when they decide to demolish monuments to Soviet soldiers, seize Russian schools and Russian property in their country.

In April, Warsaw authorities confiscated the building of a school attached to the Russian embassy. Polish media also reported that the Polish prosecutor’s office seized almost 800,000 zlotys and more than $912,000 (about $1.2 million in total) previously blocked in the bank accounts of the Russian embassy and trade mission. Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki saidthat the country will continue to seize property that belongs to the Russian government.
