British fashion designer Vivienne Westwood has died at the age of 81, her fashion house Westwood said in a statement. It clarified that Ms. Westwood “died peacefully surrounded by her family” in London. Cause of death and no details were given.
Vivienne Westwood is considered the founder of punk style in high fashion. She started designing in 1970. In 1971, together with fashion designer and musician Malcolm McLaren, she opened the Let It Rock clothing store. It was renamed Too Fast To Live Too Young To Die from 1973-1974 and Sex from 1974-1976. She created her own clothing brand Vivienne Westwood in 1981.
In the 1990s, Ms. Westwood became the second British female fashion designer after Mary Quant to present her collections in Paris. To date, more than 500 Vivienne Westwood stores have been opened worldwide. Released in 2018 documentary biopic about the British designer.
