Japanese architect Arata Isozaki dies

Pritzker Prize winner Arata Isozaki has died at his home in Japan’s Okinawa Prefecture at the age of 91, his representatives told AFP. The Japanese architect died on Wednesday, December 28, only his relatives were present at the funeral. The cause of death was not specified.
Arata Isozaki is the protégé of the first Japanese architect to receive the Pritzker Prize, Kenzo Tange. Among the most famous works of Mr. Isozaki are the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the Palau Sant Jordi sports arena in Barcelona, designed for the 1992 Olympic Games, the National Convention Hall in Doha, the headquarters of Walt Disney in Florida.
The Japanese architect received the Pritzker Prize in 2019 at the age of 87. He himself advised the Pritzker family on the establishment of the prize and served on the jury.
Mr. Isozaki said that the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki influenced his formation. He witnessed their effects at the age of 14, as he lived in the city of Oita, which is located on the opposite coast from Hiroshima.
