“I painted it on some tablecloth”
Today in Moscow the first auction of works of Russian painting will be held at multimillion-dollar price tags. Among the exhibited lots, a painting by Viktor Tsoi is presented for the first time. The composer and performer of the late Soviet rock scene left us a significant artistic legacy. Tsoi wrote his works without ceremony on any available materials. Up for auction was a rare and impressively large oil painting on oilcloth from the collection of the famous photographer and friend Sergei Borisov.
“We expect total sales of 150-200 million rubles,” Roza Verkhovina, one of the organizers of the house’s auction, told MK. – A unique lot is, of course, a painting by Viktor Tsoi, which he painted on some tablecloth. But his painting has already been exhibited for a lot of money. A lot with a painting by Viktor Tsoi starts at 7 million rubles. Among the rare paintings there is a lot by Philip Malyavin, and among non-professional artists the work of rock musician Viktor Tsoi. The minimum reserve price for his painting is $90,000. The figure doesn’t scare anyone, we understand that it’s very cheap.
It is planned to earn about 120 million rubles for Tsoi’s work. 70% of the lots already have specific buyers who came and offered to buy the works before today’s auction.
