From rap to synth-pop: bright autumn releases
Scriptonite in collaboration with Endgame and Stereopolina unexpectedly lift the mood with their singles, Zero People frightens with the truth, Lascala in the album format turns women’s suffering into programmatic statements. ZD collects the brightest informal releases of the fall.
Scriptonite this year resembles the generous owner of a store of plenty. The fifth album of the year is already being prepared for release, and at the end of autumn, the Kazakh rap guru, in tandem with Endgame, releases the completely un-autumn track “Spoiled”. Perhaps it makes sense to pay attention to this song for those who can afford hot countries in winter. Several minutes are simply filled with resort languor with a dominant Latin guitar.
Not the most familiar sound for Scryptonite, but after all his releases over the past months of the year, there is nothing particularly surprising. Adil apparently found a generous source of inspiration. Not to say that the artist is gushing with hits, but he definitely keeps his fans on their toes. They can already place bets on where their idol will take him next. And it will be very difficult to guess.
Stereopolina, according to Karina Abdulkayumova’s passport, visualized her track “Kaleidoscope”, and the result was a journey to the eighties in both music and video. Synth-pop can be called the main musical doctrine of the singer, but the position of a bass guitarist in a rock band at the very beginning of her career allows Stereopolina to mix colors.
“Kaleidoscope” is probably one of her most fun songs, although the fun in synth-pop always turns out to be somehow cool. However, the video adds warmth. The singer here is a kind of Polina Selezneva from the Soviet TV hit “Guest from the Future.” It features a time machine, meeting a stranger in the eighties, a date full of awkwardness, and all sorts of fun things like a cassette player and soda fountains. The exploitation of such vintage is becoming more and more shameless, but in this case the sound justifies the image. And the summer picture pleasantly sets off the current landscape outside the window.
In October, members of the Zero People group released the album “Songs of Time” and recently released a video for the track “Sorry.” As part of their side project, Animal Jazz members Alexander Krasovitsky (vocals) and Alexander Zarankin (keyboards) succeeded in composing rock romances that can hardly be called imposing or carefree, as is usually the case in acoustic bands. “Songs of Time” is a powerful reflection of people who don’t really understand what to do in the current situation, and “Sorry” is one of the key songs of the album.
These are songs of those who care, and I would like to wish the members of Zero People to preserve themselves as musicians and not abandon their fans, of which there are quite a few.
The members of Lascala, having survived everything associated with the tenth anniversary of the group, returned to their normal lives and released a new album, Linea. When the group appeared, the intention to play alternative rock with an admixture of Latin and strong bridges to pop music turned out to be not exactly fashionable. At the beginning of the 1900s, the passion for alternative rock had already died down, guitar bands were focusing on punk, and then rap intervened with all the ensuing consequences.
In such a situation, Lascala members decided to rely on their own instincts, and not the recommendations of music portals, and in the end they were right. If their albums did not become fashion sensations, then the concerts quickly turned into rock events, where serious passions ran high.
Having built up a fan base, the musicians stubbornly continued their rock journey and achieved a very lively studio sound on Linea. After the instrumental intro called Linea I, real guitar fighters begin to sound, reminiscent of a heavy train rushing at dangerous speed.
However, after six tracks and a second instrumental fragment, the insatiable passions and thirst for adrenaline suddenly fade away. After the party, it’s like a hangover sets in, and the album ends with three completely sad songs about the feeling of a scorched desert. Such an ending can hardly be called encouraging, although right now hope is seen in the need to realize and correctly accept what is around. And rock comes in handy here.
