Verandas in the capital’s restaurants and cafes will open on April 1 and will remain open until November. Their installation has already begun, the Moscow State Real Estate Inspectorate reported. All street food areas are included in the layout of seasonal cafes. Thus, from 2022, entrepreneurs can obtain permission to build a veranda electronically for free. Now there are about 4 thousand summer cafes in this register, half of which are located in the Central Administrative District.
At the same time, the veranda does not bring additional profit in the summer season, but only preserves it, noted the ombudsman of the Moscow restaurant market, Sergei Mironov: “Now almost everyone is trying to organize open areas. In past years, the summer capital was considered an empty metropolis, a city of summer residents. But recently everything has changed, and a large number of tourists from Russia come to Moscow, especially in the warm season. So the relevance of summer verandas has increased.
But here it should be noted that such locations do not provide additional profit to the restaurant, but only allow it to be fixed at the usual level. After opening the summer veranda, income will not increase relative to winter. At best, it will persist, because in the summer people still try to go outside somewhere. And restaurants that have a veranda, of course, win. Moreover, if you don’t open it, the revenue will be much lower.”
Meanwhile, the arrangement of the veranda becomes more expensive every year, noted Daria Belyaeva, manager of the White Rabbit restaurant: “Every year we plan a summer location, we will open it by April 20. There will be some improvement, there will be new landscaping. True, from year to year building materials grow by 5-10%. As a rule, as soon as you set up the tables, you just start preparing the veranda, the sun is just coming out, and the guests immediately want to move there. This is nonsense. We hope that the summer will be good and the tourist flow from Arab and Asian countries will continue.”
In November 2023, the State Duma adopted in the first reading a bill on the sale of alcohol on summer verandas, but there has been no further consideration yet. At the same time, it is now possible to drink and buy alcohol in street food areas if they are considered part of a restaurant or cafe.
