The Premier video service is launching a new TV series “Drip”, the main character of which has dedicated his life to getting Moscow celebrities out of drinking binges and overdoses. The video blogger Ida Galich is responsible for the idea and the script, and Ilya Aksenov, the director of “Relatives” and “Peace! Friendship! Gum!”. The authors, as best they can, send greetings not only to the “Drunk Firm” of Gregory of Constantinople, but also to the “Brother” of Alexei Balabanov.
Assigned to the ambulance team, intern Vanya (Denis Prytkov) makes an official and everyday mistake – ignoring the instructions of the elder and pumping out the patient despite his stupidity – and gets on the pencil to the head physician Proskurin (Sergey Lavygin). The head physician is still a hard worker and is not used to throwing talents away – realizing that Vanya has a gift for mixing cocktails for patients with an overdose and withdrawal syndrome, he attaches an intern to his informal brigade of “droppers” who bring rock stars, officials and tiktokers back to life. According to the law, as the heroes of the series say, it is impossible to dig drug addicts at home, but in fact Vanya is doing well. Yes, and he desperately needs money – a friend’s mother is dying, and the operation costs seven hundred thousand.
“Drip” starts extremely effectively: the camera moves away from the neon showcase with smartphones over broken glass, garbage, bloody stains to the body of an unfortunate thief, over which an ambulance brigade is poring. Ilya Aksenov, author of the hit multi-part story from the nineties “Peace! Friendship! Chewing gum! ”, Cinematic muscles have grown – you can not be afraid of comparisons even with the“ Drunk Firm ”of Gregory of Constantinople, who five years ago already made the dropper the hero of a four-episode giallo. The dropper of Constantinople was a man from the nineties. Aksenov’s is a millennial, if not a buzzer. A big city, sparkling lights, a line of cars stretches along a night highway, like vitamins through a plastic tube into a vein. Turned on the music, and the movie flies. “With a song, more fun at the most fierce hour,” Mujuice sings off-screen, and this “more fun” should be taken quite literally. Despite the stated topics – drugs (pixelated, by the way, in the frame), medical corruption, overdoses and withdrawal symptoms – “Drip” manages to demonstrate amazing joviality at every step. And this despite the fact that one of the heroes of the film was a taxi driver who lost his arm due to a dose.
Perhaps the whole point is that the video blogger Ida Galich, who won millions of subscribers and social networks with her “vines”, was responsible for the content. For her, “Drip” is more likely not a story of a doctor or drugs, but a production drama about his clients. A movie about how rails saw, shoot stories, live and work stars that inhabit “tiktok houses”. One of the most memorable scenes of the first series is the advertising bathing of the instadiva under the nickname Alko (Anastasia Reznik) in a bath with red caviar. That is, of course, drugs are evil, corruption is terrible, but the problems of professional burnout of content makers and online influencers are much more occupied.
The script for “The Dropper” is written strongly, but, perhaps, too instrumentally. Each of the characters has reasons to follow their own curved path, you can’t argue: Vanya became a doctor and puts illegal droppers because he survived a personal tragedy and suffers from guilt, the girl Alko wants fame to impress her parents, the head physician goes to great lengths to save the son. There is no deep thought or leitmotif in these motifs: it seems that the plot for this project is like a filter for a photo on Instagram. Should be – means will be. Still, the characters are interesting to watch. Bloggers are depicted effortlessly as bloggers and do not play, but exist in the frame as simulacrums of success, and the role of a one-armed taxi driver was played by a non-professional with a disability. Both solutions are economical, but add life to what is happening in the frame – Nikita Nikitin, who played the one-armed loser from Taganrog, deservedly received the diploma “Discovery of the Year” at the Pilot festival in Ivanovo.
The main character, played by Denis Prytkov, who has not yet been worn out by the serial industry, is also interesting. His laconic but decisive Vanya, dressed in a coarse sweater and black jeans, unequivocally alludes to Danila Bagrov in the list of primary sources. Well, doctors for Alexei Balabanov were iconic heroes. It is no coincidence that in the studio of the Moscow television center, Bagrov, it seems, promised the TV presenter Ivan Demidov that he would enter the medical one – to treat people. Who knows, maybe it is this unfulfilled dream of Danila that the dropper Vanya fulfills.
