The Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus plant in St. Petersburg, which is idle, has again begun production of bodies and their painting for Hyundai Solaris, sources said. Vedomosti. The Kazakh company suspended the production of Accent (Solaris) and Creta in the summer of 2022 due to problems at the Russian plant.
According to the newspaper’s interlocutors, the line for the production of bodies for Solaris was restarted recently, and the production of bodies for Creta models is also expected to start. A factory spokesman declined to comment.
The Hyundai plant produced 234,000 vehicles in 2021, the largest number among foreign car manufacturers. 71 thousand accounted for Solaris and Creta, the rest – for Kia Rio (Kia is part of the Hyundai concern). The enterprise in March suspended its activities against the backdrop of the military operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine. The downtime is valid until the end of 2022. Before the cuts began, about 2.5 thousand people worked at the plant. By information local newspaper Fontanka, the company can cut up to 80% of the staff.
The Russian plant supplied products to Kazakhstan before. In 2021, exports to neighboring countries amounted to 24,000 vehicles, 16,000 of which were shipped as vehicle kits for assembly at a site in Almaty.
