USM holding to challenge British sanctions

USM intends to challenge the UK-imposed sanctions against the holding and its shareholders, Kommersant was told in the company’s press service. The holding considers the measures unfair and unreasonable.
“As you know, Alisher Usmanov has not been engaged in entrepreneurial activity for a long time, owns less than 50% of the holding and does not participate in its management. We intend to challenge these restrictions as illegal,” USM representatives said.
About sanctions against USM UK announced today, 12 April. In the comments on the restrictive measures, the initiators specified that they consider the holding to be controlled by Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov, “participating in obtaining benefits from the Russian government or supporting it.”
Usmanov was placed on the sanctions list by the UK authorities on March 3, 2022. Prior to this, the businessman fell under the sanctions of the European Union (EU). The entrepreneur called the decision of the EU unreasonable.
