Telegram founder Pavel Durov said that from April 1, users of the messenger from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus will be able to limit the circle of those who have the right to send them private messages. This measure, as Mr. Durov explained, was introduced in response to user complaints about messages from strangers calling for terrorist attacks.
As he said in his Russian-language Telegram– channel Pavel Durov, four days ago, Russian-speaking users of the messenger began to complain about messages they received calling for terrorist acts. They noted that the messages came from strangers.
“Within an hour of receiving such complaints, we applied a number of technical and organizational measures in order to prevent this activity. As a result, tens of thousands of attempts to send such messages were stopped, and thousands of users participating in this flash mob faced eternal blocking of their Telegram accounts,” Mr. Durov wrote.
As a measure to limit the spread of such messages, Telegram users from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus will, from the beginning of next week, be allowed to limit the circle of those who can send them private messages. “We are also implementing artificial intelligence solutions to filter such spam even more effectively. Telegram is not a place for spam mailings and calls for violence,” the founder of the messenger emphasized.
