Ural Airlines wants to lease 38 MS-21 aircraft – Kommersant

Ural Airlines has submitted an application for leasing 38 Russian MS-21 aircraft, said Sergey Skuratov, CEO of the airline. The carrier will also buy some of the Airbus aircraft. Mr. Skuratov added that Ural Airlines received permission from the United States to buy out 19 out of 52 Airbus aircraft. For this, according to him, credit resources of the Russian Federation will be provided.
“We made an application for 38 MS-21s. The time frame is somewhere around 2029-2030. We wanted to lease (purchase aircraft.— “b”),” said Mr. Skuratov (TASS quote).
The deal to buy the aircraft, he said, is now “under decision.” “The United States allowed us to buy back 19 aircraft, and the European Union,” Sergei Skuratov added, adding that he expects a decision to be made within the next three weeks (quoted by Interfax).
- After the start of the military operation in Ukraine, Russian airlines were banned from using European aircraft, and those leased under old contracts were called upon to return within a month. The Ministry of Transport offered airlines to buy out aircraft from foreign lessors at the expense of the National Welfare Fund (NWF). Government singled out 300 billion rubles for this.
As it became known to Kommersant, the cost of the new Russian MS-21 aircraft with delivery in 2028-2030 is estimated at 4.3-4.6 billion rubles. The State Transport Leasing Company sent such a proposal to airlines that are not part of Aeroflot. This is more expensive than counterparts from Airbus and Boeing, although subsidies from the National Welfare Fund are included in the price.
