KamAZ in June 2023 will launch commercial unmanned cargo transportation along the M-11 Neva highway, which connects Moscow and St. Petersburg. This was announced by Deputy General Director of the company Mikhail Matasov.
“We have to go in June. In May, we should already roll them close to the M-11. They are now just looking for a site where to carry out maintenance: in Moscow and St. Petersburg, ”he said in response to a question about when it is planned to launch unmanned KamAZ trucks on the M-11.
We are talking about the fourth level of autonomy: this means that the driver will still be present in the KamAZ cab. As Mikhail Matasov clarified, it is planned to test the system of commercial cargo transportation in this mode, and not the unmanned vehicles themselves. “We will not transport air,” he added.
At the moment, KamAZ has already produced two unmanned trucks: KamAZ-54901 and KamAZ-54907. They were tested at the end of December 2022.
Also continue tests of autonomous trucks on the routes Naberezhnye Chelny-Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny-Nizhnekamsk. Regular test trips on this route are scheduled to begin in March.
In the near future, it will release four more trucks, one of which will be a reserve one. In addition, KAMAZ plans launch the first autonomous mining trucks.
