At the end of 2023, Ukraine’s budget will receive a shortfall of about $600 million if the European Union extends the ban on the supply of Ukrainian grain, said Deputy Head of the National Bank of Ukraine Sergei Nikolaevchuk. He expects that if the EU takes this step, Ukrainian exporters will be able to use alternative supply channels.
“In our July macroeconomic forecast, we estimated losses from the ban on exports of agricultural products to neighboring countries at approximately $600 million. Now this assessment remains more or less relevant,” Mr. Nikolaevchuk told RBC-Ukraine.
In April, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia introduced a ban on the import of grain and other types of Ukrainian agricultural products. The European Commission then introduced a pan-European embargo on supplies of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds from Ukraine. This measure is valid until today, September 15. President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky threatened court when extending restrictions.
