Uganda is discussing cooperation with Russia in the oil field and nuclear energy, said Ugandan Foreign Minister Jeje Odongo. According to him, the possibility of Russian participation in the construction of an oil plant in Uganda is being discussed.

“Now we are negotiating with Russia about cooperation in our oil industry, they are studying how they (the Russians.— “Ъ”) could help us build an oil refinery,” Mr. Odongo said in an interview with RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the African Union summit.

The diplomat added that Uganda is also considering the possibility of Russian support in the development of other energy sources, including nuclear. “We have uranium deposits, and we are discussing how we can work together to exploit these resources,” said Jeje Odongo.

In July 2023, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni Meets with Vladimir Putin at the Russia-Africa summit, which took place in St. Petersburg. Mr. Museveni said that Russian companies could take part in the exploration of oil resources in his country. He also statedthat Uganda has become an “island of stability” in Africa thanks to arms purchases from Russia.
