UBS: Wealth of billionaires around the world fell by $400 billion in 2022

The total wealth of billionaires around the world has declined from $13.1 trillion in 2021 to $12.7 trillion in 2022. By March of this year, the number of billionaires decreased by 87 people compared to March of the previous year, calculated in a Swiss bank UBS. According to the study, since March 2022, the total wealth of billionaires and their number in the world continues to decline.
It is noted that the most serious changes were observed in the field of finance and investment – during the year 50 new billionaires appeared in this sector, and 30 people fell out of this category. There are 41 new billionaires in tech, while 57 people are below a billion. Analysts believe that this fluctuation reflects the dynamics of the sector with constant innovation and low entry thresholds. In the manufacturing sector, the number of billionaires decreased by 7 people, to 338, follows from the study data.
As of March 2022, the most billionaires are still in the Asia-Pacific region – 1,084 people, 59 people less than last year, UBS reports. At the same time, in the United States, their number has increased to 735 people from 724 in 2021, and the total wealth has grown to $4.7 trillion. In Western Europe, the number of billionaires has decreased by 7 people in a year, but the fortune has remained the same – $ 2.3 trillion, calculated in the bank. According to UBS, the number of billionaires in Eastern Europe was affected by the Russian conflict in Ukraine – their number in the region decreased from 154 to 127, and the total wealth decreased by more than a third – to $ 455 billion.
According to a June Bloomberg study, the 500 richest people in the world this year lost a total of $1.4 trillion. At the same time, analysts said that in 2021 the trend was the opposite: then rapidly growing markets increased the number of wealthy people in the world by about 8%.
