Two more ferries can be built for the Kaliningrad region

The Kaliningrad company Baltikport requested from the Amur Shipbuilding Plant (ASZ; part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, USC) the construction time, price and technical characteristics of two new passenger-and-freight ferries (Vedomosti has a letter from the company dated May 26). According to the document, the company plans to use the vessels on sea lines between Kaliningrad and St. Petersburg.

The letter also states that Baltikport was established to implement a project to improve the passenger traffic infrastructure in the Kaliningrad region, organize passenger transportation by sea in the direction of Kaliningrad – Petersburg (Ust-Luga port). “Given the indicated route, which is more than 1000 km long, or 800 nautical miles, it became necessary to consider the project CNF11CPD 00300 (cargo-passenger ferry with ice category Arc5). Our organization is the initiator of this project, the customer, the lessee,” the letter says.
