Try on a kokoshnik, taste ice cream, grow up: Night of the Arts in Moscow

What interesting things have Moscow theaters and cinemas prepared for the Night of the Arts? The MK observer walked around the well-known sites.

Small stage of the Theater. N. Gogol. Musical and poetic evening “I see you, I remember you …”, dedicated to the poets of the sixties. According to the theater, the actors “will rethink the poetry of the Khrushchev thaw, giving it a decoy sharpness and youthful enthusiasm.” Poems by Robert Rozhdestvensky, Andrey Voznesensky, Yevgeny Yevtushenko, Bella Akhmadulina, Rimma Kazakova, Gennady Shpalikov will be heard from the stage.

An exhibition of works by students and teachers of the School of Watercolors and students of the Academy of Watercolors and Fine Arts of Sergei Andriyaka “Theatre in Painting” will open in the foyer of the small hall of the Teresa Durova Theatre. All works are made in the technique of classical multi-layered watercolors and stained glass Tiffany. Among them are theatrical still lifes, costumed portraits, illustrations for Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. Art historian Maria Burova will talk about the mutual influence of theater and painting, the genre of “living pictures”, about Bilibin, Vasnetsov, Vrubel and other artists whose lives were connected with the theater , as well as try on kokoshniks from the collection of the theater, in which theater artists play.

The “Pyotr Fomenko Workshop” will host a remembrance concert “My Brel”, where fragments of memories from the diaries of the Belgian French-speaking poet, bard, film actor Jacques Brel will be performed. In 1965 he came to the USSR, visited Moscow, Leningrad, Baku, Tbilisi, Yerevan. Theater actors will also tell their stories about the absurdities of life and the oddities of love.

In “Sphere” – “Vampilov readings”. The evening is dedicated to the 85th birthday of the playwright Alexander Vampilov. And its participants will be the creators of the play “The Elder Son” and other actors of the theater. They will read Vampilov’s works and tell their stories related to his works. The chief director of Sphere, Alexander Korshunov, recalls: “The history of my connection with Vampilov is long. At the Moscow Art Theater School, my favorite was the role of the old man Yeremeev from Last Summer in Chulimsk. And I fully appreciated the play “Elder Son” precisely in the process of rehearsals. Only after plunging into it with the actors, we realized how deep it is – you can’t show in it what you haven’t lived with your soul and don’t accept with your heart.

The Youth Theater under the direction of Vyacheslav Spesivtsev invites the audience to the play “A Hero of Our Time” by Lermontov, and the “Magic Lamp” to “The Tale of the Dead Princess and the Seven Bogatyrs” by Pushkin. Theater actress. V. Mayakovsky, Maria Boltneva will meet with the audience on November 5 on the Small Stage of the Theater as part of the Night of the Arts. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Mayakovka, they came up with the cycle “Little Evenings” – a kind of presentation of its artists.

Closer to midnight, the Theater and Cinema Center under the direction of Nikita Mikhalkov will host a meeting with the theater’s chief artist Yuri Kuper. He was the author of the project of its reconstruction and interior design, worked as a production designer on the performances of “Light Breath”, “The Wives of the Artists”, “Enemies”, “Madrid”, “Dark Alleys” from the cycle “Metamorphoses”, as well as “Cyrano de Bergerac”, “12”. The works of this master are kept in the Tretyakov Gallery, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Library of Congress, the collections of the Ministry of Culture of France, the Royal Museum of Japan. Cooper designed more than 20 performances in Russia, France, Italy, USA. In 1988, he worked with Mikhalkov on the creation of “An Unfinished Piece for Mechanical Piano” at the Argentina Theater in Rome, staged as an artist “Boris Godunov” at the Bolshoi Theater with director Alexander Sokurov. Together they once worked on his painting “The Sun”. Yuri Kuper will talk about how the scenography of the center’s performances was born, how film technologies are being introduced into theatrical art.

In the Bulgakov House there will be an apartment performance “One Day of Summer”, which will feature poems by classics and modern poets about summer with its smells of herbs, the taste of ice cream, cycling by Marina Tsvetaeva, Joseph Brodsky, Vladimir Soloukhin, Yuri Levitansky, Dmitry Vodennikov and others.

The independent theater association “Laboratory of Modern Drama” in the cultural center “Maryina Roshcha” will present a performance-multimedia production in the genre of storytelling (storytelling) based on the poems of Boris Ryzhy. As its authors say, collective reflection is synthesized from chewing gum inserts, daddy’s boots in the hallway and shots from the Rambo movie. The blue screen will take viewers back to a world where many of us saw things through the eyes of a pioneer, and allow them to relive the unique experience of growing up.

At the Moskino Cosmos cinema, Muscovites are waiting for the film concert “Four Seasons. Moscow cinema seasons. It is composed of 12 songs, two instrumental compositions symbolizing the seasons. They will confirm the truth that nature has no bad weather. Famous theater and film actors – Anastasia Makeeva, Polina Lazareva, Valeria Lanskaya, Alexei Goman, Gia Peradze – will perform songs from Soviet movie hits of different years.

She was loved and inspired by Georgy Danelia, Tatyana Lioznova, Eldar Ryazanov, Vladimir Menshov and many other masters of Soviet and Russian cinema. The songs that sound in their films have become truly folk, they are an integral part of our cultural code. Now it is very important to remind people what unites us all. And good movies and good music are the best way to do that.”
