Toyota recalls 1.8 million RAV4 vehicles in the US – Kommersant

Toyota announced about a recall in the United States of more than 1.8 million RAV4 SUVs produced between 2013 and 2018. The reason for this was the risk of cars catching fire due to improper battery dimensions.
Some of the replacement 12-volt batteries had top dimensions that were smaller than intended, the company said in a statement. As a result, such batteries may not be securely fastened with clamps, which, when driving fast and making sharp turns, can lead to the fasteners becoming loose. The consequence of this may be a short circuit and fire of the car.
The company is currently working to resolve the issue and will notify all customers whose vehicle is subject to the recall by the end of December, when they can come to the service center and have the incorrectly sized battery replaced free of charge.
This is one of the largest Toyota recalls in recent years. Among other similar actions, it is worth recalling the recall of more than 1 million Prius and C-HR cars in 2018 due to fire risk and recall 2016associated with Takata airbags and affecting 5.8 million of the company’s vehicles.
