More than 2 million guests will visit Moscow during the New Year holidays, this was a forecast made by the Russian Union of Tourism Industry based on data from last year. In general, the growth of tourist traffic in the country this year was 8%; almost 30 million people will travel for the New Year. More than half of them will choose Moscow, Krasnodar Territory and St. Petersburg. PCT reports that by early December, 96% of hotel rooms in the capital were already booked.

Will there be room left in museums and theaters for Muscovites? And won’t the townspeople have to freeze in lines? Director of Strategy and Analytics for MTS Live Vladimir Ageev warns that tickets to the most popular places may soon run out: “In general, the figures for November and the first half of December are record highs in the entire history of our observations. Naturally, this also applies to events that will take place during the January holidays.

Traditionally, a large number of Muscovites and guests of the capital attend many different New Year’s events. This year, the ticket buying trend has even returned to pre-COVID-19 times, meaning people are snapping up tickets within a couple of months.

And, probably, the main advice is to worry about this issue not at the beginning of January, otherwise you may face the fact that you will have to go not for what you want, but for what is left.

I would also note a new trend – services for booking not only tickets for various events, but also tables both in theater buffets and at concerts are now popular, when you can order food and drinks in advance.

If we are talking about the most popular events, then the Nutcracker ballet, which is performed at various venues, and musicals are in particular demand. At the same time, the best places for most dates have been sold out. At the same time, there are more than a hundred museums and various venues in Moscow. So there will still be a choice.”

In addition to street fairs and parks, excursions to Red Square, the Kremlin and the Tretyakov Gallery are especially popular with tourists this year. Temporary slots for skating rinks are also being sold out. For example, a ticket to the New Year’s program on ice at GUM can now only be purchased from resellers for 24 thousand rubles.

But you can still book a trip to the Tretyakov Gallery during the winter holidays. However, as Kommersant FM was told at the museum box office, tickets for the New Year holidays traditionally run out by the end of December: “Entrance tickets are already on sale, but they may run out closer to the holidays, because there are a limited number of them. At the same time, we have a waiting list, but it is not always possible to let everyone in. Therefore, it is better to purchase tickets in advance, for a specific date and time.

If we haven’t visited before, you can visit Lavrushinsky Lane, 10. This is a historical building, the halls of which display classics from the 11th century to the beginning of the 20th. We are currently hosting many events at different venues. Thus, in the New Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val there is an exhibition of works by Nicholas Roerich, and it is better to track the time of excursions there on the website.”

Meanwhile, this year the streets of Moscow will be decorated with 5 thousand light structures and 1 thousand artificial trees. Also this winter, 45 skating rinks will open in different areas in the city, some of them will be free.
