Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko said that the occupancy of hotels during the winter holidays in Russia ranged from 70% to 95%, and the tourist flow increased by 10-15% compared to last year.
“Tourist flow in Russia during the winter holidays has grown by 10-15% per year, to more than 12 million people,” Mr. Chernyshenko said at a meeting with Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin (quoted from government press office).
According to him, Russians have begun to travel more often not only to such traditional destinations as Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kazan. In the ski resorts of the North Caucasus, Sochi, the Sakhalin region, Sheregesh and the resorts of the European part of Russia and the Urals, more than 3 million people rested this year, which is 10% more than last year, the Deputy Prime Minister said.
3.4 million people traveled by rail, 2.2 million by air.
Dmitry Chernyshenko also said that the Ministry of Economic Development has prepared a new lending program for the tourism industry at a rate of 5% for up to five years and with the possibility of obtaining loans up to 50 million rubles. He added that the department has developed new programs to increase the mutual flow of tourists with friendly countries.
