In July-August, a shortage of places in popular hotels in Russian resorts is expected, said Sergey Agafonov, chairman of the Russian Union of Travel Industry (PCT) committee on travel agents, transmits Interfax.
According to him, Russians have become a little less likely to book hotels abroad amid rising prices, as a result of which the PCT sees the realization of pent-up demand and somewhere else unrealized demand for outbound destinations.
“At the same time, popular accommodation facilities within Russia are bought up in the first place. In July-August there will already be a shortage of vacation spots in Russian resorts,” he said.
In May, Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov said that the authorities expect in July, an increase in the cost of accommodation in Russian hotels by 8-15% compared to last year. According to the results of the first quarter of 2023, the tourist flow increased by 19% year-on-year, he noted. In general, for the year, the Ministry of Economy expects an increase in the tourist flow by 5.5%, that is, by 7 million people more than last year.
In the first quarter of 2023, hotel accommodation increased by 20% compared to the same period in 2022. However, the booking period has decreased – now Russians plan their trips 2-3 weeks before departure, he noted.
In March, the President of the PCT, Ilya Umansky, predicted an increase in tourist flow in Russia up to 10% compared to last year, and abroad – by 25-30%. According to him, the dynamics of the tourist flow in Russia in 2023 will be determined by the availability of transportation and the availability of hotel infrastructure, the volume of which, according to Umansky, is growing every year.
Former Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko informed, which is about 50 billion rubles. will be allocated from the federal budget to support the tourism sector in 2023. This will make it possible to build a new number of rooms, infrastructure for resorts, support entrepreneurial initiatives, national tourist routes, and also provide schoolchildren and youth with free educational trips, the politician noted.
