The Ilyich Metallurgical Plant has started operating in Mariupol, and the first three workshops have now been launched, First Deputy Director of the plant Roman Solonar told RIA Novosti. According to him, about 3.7 thousand people work in production. He noted that when fully launched, about 24 thousand people will work in production.
According to him, the plan for restoring the plant is divided into four stages. “We have already reached the first stage – these are five auxiliary workshops. Of these, a slag processing workshop is already operating, and a department for the production of consumer goods is also operating: it produces profiled sheets, bent angles, and bent channels, which are used here, inside the plant, to restore the enterprise,” said Mr. Solonar.
In June, the head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, told RIA Novosti that the plant had been completely cleared of mines. Then he said that the launch of the enterprise would be carried out in stages from 2023 to 2025. As a result of active hostilities in Mariupol, the city’s civil and industrial infrastructure was destroyed. Suppliers of raw materials for Ingas were Azovstal enterprises and the Ilyich plant – both production facilities were highly damaged during the fighting.
