Spanish airport operator Aena, which is the world leader in the number of passengers served, reported about receiving net profit at the end of 2023 in the amount of €1.63 billion. This is a record figure in the history of the company.

Compared to 2022, Aena’s net profit rose 80.9%, driven by renewed growth in global tourism. Moreover, 2023 profits were 13% higher than 2019, the last year before the COVID-19 pandemic began. Aena’s revenue at the end of 2023 reached €5.14 billion, which is 21.3% more than in 2022.

Aena, which is majority owned by the state, owns a network of 46 airports in Spain (including Madrid and Barcelona airports) and 2 heliports. In addition, the company owns interests in several airports in the UK, Colombia and Mexico. In the fourth quarter of 2023, Aena began operating 11 more airports in Brazil. The company won the corresponding tender back in 2022; the concession agreement with the Brazilian authorities is designed for 30 years with the possibility of extension for another 5 years.
