The Witcher: Origins received the worst user reviews in Netflix history

The Witcher: Origins miniseries, which premiered on December 25, was poorly received by film critics and received the lowest audience ratings in Netflix history. On a popular review aggregator resource Rotten Tomatoes The audience rating for The Witcher prequel is 9% (out of 100 possible). A similar indicator, formed on the basis of reviews from critics – 38%.
On the platform Metacritic viewers rated the new series 0.5 points (out of 10 possible), critics – 47 points out of 100. In most reviews, critics and users explain the low rating of the picture by the creators’ departure from the plot of the original story and script shortcomings.
The Witcher media franchise, which includes books, games, films and TV series, is based on a series of novels by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. For the first time, the works of Mr. Sapkowski were filmed in 2002 – then the original Polish television series and its shortened version in the form of a full-length film were released. The trilogy of computer games brought great fame to the universe. In 2019, the first season of the Netflix series The Witcher premiered.
