Collective of the Kyiv National Academy of Music postponed the question of excluding the name of the Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky from its title.
Minister of Culture of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko said he was disappointed with this decision. The academy said that it is still necessary to figure out whether it is worth doing. According to the head of the department, the Verkhovna Rada and other institutions related to the case recommended getting rid of the name of Tchaikovsky.
“The question is not even in whose name this institution should bear, it is a question of markers with which we designate our educational and cultural space,” the minister said on social networks.
Previously refused to remove the name of Tchaikovsky from its name council of the Kyiv Conservatory. They explained that the father of the Russian composer came from the Zaporozhye Cossacks, and he himself “incredibly loved” Ukraine, and laid the foundation for higher musical education in it.
