The support community for Russian-language Wikipedia, Wikimedia.ru, will be liquidated, its director Stanislav Kozlovsky said. Before this, according to Mr. Kozlovsky, the leadership of the psychology department of Moscow State University insisted on his dismissal.
“Yesterday evening there was a general meeting of Wikimedia.ru, at which I told this story. The general decision was to close the organization. The liquidation process will last several months. I hope that no one else gets hurt,” the community director wrote on the forum “Wikipedia”.
Stanislav Kozlovsky also claims that he was asked to resign from the psychology department of Moscow State University, where he worked as an assistant professor for 25 years, due to possible inclusion in the register of foreign agents. “They put two papers in front of me – an order with dismissal under the article “for absenteeism” and a statement “on my own.” I chose the latter,” Mr. Kozlovsky clarified.
Agency TASS the head of the organization explained that Wikimedia.ru did not manage Wikipedia, but managed the community of its authors, conducted seminars, lectures and master classes about wiki projects. He added that the organization had been operating for 15 years.
In 2023, the court fined the Wikimedia Foundation 13 times under Part 2 of Art. 13.4.1 Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (violation of the procedure for restricting access to information). The total amount of fines exceeds 20 million rubles. In May, Wikimedia filed a lawsuit against the Prosecutor General’s Office with a request to declare the demand to remove certain publications illegal.
