Against the background of the special operation of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, Western countries not only impose sanctions on Russia, but also make attempts to “cancel” Russian culture, regularly canceling any concerts, performances and exhibitions. The widow of Vasily Lanovoy, actress Irina Kupchenko, said that domestic artists do not take the actions of Western authorities seriously.
In a conversation with “Arguments and Facts” At the opening of the XX Open Russian Film and Theater Festival “Amur Autumn” Kupchenko said that Russian artists are simply laughing at the fact that someone in the West is trying to ban Russian culture. She stressed that this was impossible and constituted “nonsense and absurdity”.
According to Kupchenko, any kind of sanctions can be imposed against Russia, but it is “unrealistic” to abolish Russian culture. She added that the return of Russian titles to the repertoire of La Scala and other world theaters is proof of this.
The actress added that the Vakhtangov Theater, where she serves, is not afraid of any sanctions, and the theater is actively touring Russia, and tours are also planned in China and Kazakhstan. As Kupchenko noted, during the coronavirus period, the actors really missed the tour, as they are “itinerant comedians.”
