First Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Vladimir Chistyukhin said that at the end of 2023, the volume of cash withdrawals in the banking sector amounted to 84 billion rubles. He spoke about this during a speech at Financier Day as part of the international exhibition and forum “Russia”.
“Over the past 10 years, the volume of cash transactions and suspicious transactions has decreased tenfold. We understand that this is work that we cannot turn a blind eye to, even if it seems that everything is fine today,” noted Mr. Chistyukhin (quoted by TASS).
According to him, the volume of suspicious transactions involving the withdrawal of funds abroad last year amounted to 32 billion rubles.
By data Central Bank, in September 2023, the volume of cash in circulation decreased by 21.6 billion rubles. As RBC noted, this decrease was the first decrease in the amount of cash held by the population since the spring of 2022 that was not due to seasonality.
At the end of the first half of 2023, cash withdrawal volumes in the banking sector decreased year-on-year by 5%, to RUB 32 billion. The volume of suspicious transactions decreased by 9% over six months.
