The number of accidents in Russia on all types of transport has decreased significantly over the past year, said the head of Rostransnadzor, Viktor Basargin. The number of accidents involving air transport has decreased most noticeably – by 36% compared to the previous year.
“But if we say that the volume of passenger transportation and cargo transportation is growing across all types of transport, therefore the accident rate is seriously decreasing. The first is everything related to air transport – by 36%. The highest rate of decline,” said Viktor Basargin at a meeting with Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin (quote from “RIA News”).
The head of Rostransnadzor emphasized that, despite a significant reduction in accident rates on all types of transport, the number of accidents involving cars remained at the 2022 level, decreasing by only 1%. At the same time, the accident rate in water and rail transport has decreased to 20%.
As Kommersant reported, citing data from the Federal Air Transport Agency, at the end of 2023, air travel safety statistics in Russia had hardly changed compared to pre-sanction times. The average level of indicators has remained unchanged since 2019. On average, 800 aviation incidents occur per year, including 60% due to equipment failure.
