The United States is “seriously committed to ensuring” that Russia cannot develop new LNG projects. This was stated by Geoffrey Pyatt, Under Secretary of State for Energy, at the Commodities Summit organized by the Financial Times. Reporting this, the newspaper clarifiesthat Mr. Payette primarily had in mind the Arctic LNG-2 project.

“Our task is to ensure that Arctic LNG-2 comes to an end,” the FT quotes the diplomat. Mr. Payette declined to comment on upcoming US actions in this direction, noting, however, that the United States is determined to prevent “the redirection of gas previously supplied to Europe.”
