The United Tea Company (OCHK) will resume production of Beseda tea. About it informs “Kommersant” with reference to the CEO and co-owner of the company Alexander Konov.

Tea production has already started in St. Petersburg this week. At the first stage, the company plans to produce black tea in bags under the Beseda brand, and then expand the range.

According to Konov, the company is going to restart the brand in the middle price segment at the federal level. Beseda tea will appear in stores in September, he noted.

According to the newspaper, the Beseda brand appeared on the Russian market in the late 1990s. The release of tea ceased in the 2010s, added the interlocutor of Kommersant in the market.

The CEO of OCHK specified that the Beseda brand was part of a deal with the Dutch company Ekaterra. Summer 2022 tea producer announced about leaving Russia, and in the spring of 2023, the company’s capacities in St. Petersburg, where up to 16,000 tons of tea were produced per year, were transferred to OCHK.

Ekaterra is one of the largest tea producers in the world. He has 34 brands in his portfolio including Lipton, PG tips, Pukka, T2 and TAZO. At the beginning of 2022, Unilever completed the sale of its tea business, merged into Ekaterra, to CVC Capital Partners VIII for €4.5 billion.

Before the deal with Ekaterra in the portfolio of a Russian company included Eastford, Berryford, Kama Sutra and Green Standard brands. Also, the manufacturer is engaged in packaging tea under the contract, including under the networks’ own trademarks. According to the Unified State Register of Legal Entities, Konov owns 50% of the OCHK, another 25% each belongs to the general director of the Luzhniki sports complex and the former vice-president of AvtoVAZ Alexander Pronin and his wife Larisa.
