The US Treasury has placed Intellect, registered in Moscow, on the sanctions list as part of the restrictions against the DPRK. The sanctions also included a Russian affiliated with the company, Sergey Kozlov, and a native of Pyongyang, Chon Jin Yong, who lives in Moscow.

The introduction of sanctions is reported in the certificate on website US Treasury. The restrictions will freeze the company’s US assets and prevent US citizens and companies from doing business with its representatives.

The day before, White House Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby saidthat the United States will impose new sanctions against Russia and North Korea in response to the build-up of military-technical cooperation between the two countries. According to John Kirby, sanctions are needed because Russia plans to obtain from the DPRK the raw materials it needs for the military-industrial complex.

At the end of July, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu visited North Korea. This was the first visit of a Russian delegation to North Korea since 2020. Sergei Shoigu and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un were at an arms exhibition in Pyongyang. After the negotiations, Kim Jong-un confirmed plans for the development of military-defense cooperation with Russia.
