Bashkir Academic Drama Theatre. Mazhita Gafuri removed the play “Zuleikha opens her eyes” from his repertoire. The theater administration explained its decision by the fact that the author of the novel of the same name, based on which the play was staged, Guzel Yakhina does not support the conduct of a special military operation, which does not coincide with the opinion of the theater workers.
As a justification, on the official website of the cultural institution, the phrase of the writer from the article “This is not my war”, which was published on the website “Our Newspaper” February 28: “The news of February 24, 2022 crushed me. My world has not turned upside down, but simply – destroyed.
The report says that the institution “supports a special military operation that Russia was forced to carry out in Ukraine.” It also notes that “the theater is called upon to promote spiritual values that are common to the Russian people,” “but a world in which neo-Nazis and fascists have been killing our brotherly people for eight years is unacceptable for us, cultural figures.”
Earlier tour performances were canceled in Chelyabinsk and Orenburg.
