The State Duma will completely switch to using domestic software, said its chairman Vyacheslav Volodin. He confirmed that the chamber purchased 1,800 licenses for the Russian analogues of the Windows operating system and the Microsoft Office suite of office programs for deputies and civil servants.
He claims that since the beginning of the military operation, “the information resources of the State Duma have been repeatedly subjected to attempts at hacker attacks from unfriendly countries.” “American IT corporations – Microsoft, Google, Apple – have repeatedly been caught spying on users. It is obvious that US intelligence will use every opportunity to penetrate the computer system of the Russian public sector,” Mr. Volodin told TASS.
The State Duma press service clarified that instead of Windows they purchased the Astra Linux OS, and instead of Microsoft Office they purchased the “My Office” package. Employees of four departments of the apparatus have already switched to Russian software.
“Vedomosti” reportedthat the purchase of licenses for analogues of Windows and Office cost the State Duma 52 million rubles. This purchase concerns computers working with an external network. In 2024, it is planned to carry out a similar purchase to work with the internal network.
