The State Duma reported 75% of counterfeit products on the vape market

State Duma deputy Biysultan Khamzaev (United Russia) said that the volume of counterfeit products on the vape market in Russia is 75%. These are the results of the monitoring activities carried out by the Sober Russia movement, which is supervised by Mr. Khamzaev.

“The counterfeit vape market in Russia reaches 75% – such a volume of products goes on sale without certificates. And no one, absolutely no one in Russia knows what substances contain different liquids for heating, ”said the TASS parliamentarian. He noted that vapes and electronic cigarettes come to the Russian Federation “in a fragmented form: on the one hand, the devices themselves under the guise of technology, on the other, liquids like aroma additives.” According to him, in 2022, more than 500 children were affected by vape explosions.

Sober Russia monitors the vape market through raids. The deputy claims that the movement was able to identify the volume of counterfeit products on the market across the country in three days – raids have been carried out since Thursday. With the results of the checks, the parliamentarian explained the need to develop amendments on the “ban on vapes in general.”

In July at the Ministry of Industry and Trade spoke against a complete ban on electronic cigarettes, since limiting their circulation will lead to the formation of a black market. January 18 State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin instructed parliamentary committees to work on the introduction of a ban on vaping for children. On the same day, the State Duma in the second and third readings accepted a law according to which, from March 1, excise taxes on cigarettes, cigarettes and liquids for vapes will be unscheduled increased by 2-11%, while excise taxes on electronic cigarettes will be canceled.
