State Duma deputies, together with the government, are working on a bill to ban the sale of energy drinks and tonic drinks to minors. About it told one of the authors of the initiative, deputy Sultan Khamzaev, commented to RIA Novosti.
“Together with our colleagues from the Russian government, we have begun working on a ban on the sale of energy drinks to minors. The main goal of our bill is to prevent the sale of non-alcoholic tonic drinks, including non-alcoholic energy drinks, to minors (persons under 18 years of age),” he said.
According to the deputy, the law should also spell out the responsibility for sellers and entrepreneurs for the sale of such drinks to minors.
December 9 with a proposal to ban the sale of energy drinks to teenagers spoke Priest Fyodor Lukyanov, Chairman of the Patriarchal Commission for Family Affairs, Protection of Motherhood and Childhood. After that, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova suggested that the Ministry of Health consider the proposal of the Russian Orthodox Church. According to her, the federal bodies “which are involved in this”, including the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, should “express their judgment and a clear position” regarding this initiative. “I already anticipate a disagreement between them,” the vice-premier emphasized at the time.
Currently, the ban on the sale of non-alcoholic energy drinks to persons under 18 is in force at the regional level in more than 20 constituent entities of Russia. Among them are the Amur, Belgorod, Vologda, Ivanovo, Kostroma, Kursk, Leningrad, Moscow regions and others. On November 2, a ban on the sale of energy drinks and lighters to children under 18 was introduced in Tatarstan.
