The State Duma approved credit holidays for co-borrowers of participants in the special operation

The State Duma adopted in the third reading a law on the possibility for co-borrowers of participants in the military operation in Ukraine to defer a loan or write it off. The initiative extends the holiday loan provision to all combatant co-borrowers.

The press service of the State Duma notes that so far only the spouse, children and dependents could use this benefit – now all co-borrowers, including parents and adoptive parents of a participant in a military operation, will be able to receive a deferment on a loan.

“In the event of the death of a member of the SVO or recognition of him as a disabled person of the first group, the loan will be written off from his parents if they are co-borrowers,” said the speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin (quote from site State Duma).

The right to credit holidays or to write off consumer and mortgage loans, participants in a military operation, mobilized and volunteers, got from October 7, 2022. According to current legislation, credit holidays also apply to spouses and children of military personnel. As of February 1, Russian banks issued credit holidays to participants in the operation and their families for 67.5 billion rubles.

Due to the lack of information about the status of a soldier, banks are not always able to provide them with benefits. The Association of Russian Banks on February 2 published a letter to the Federal Tax Service “On confirmation of information about military personnel.” ARB has already sent a number of letters on similar problems to the Federal Tax Service, the Ministry of Defense and the Central Bank.
