The State Duma announced an increase in passenger traffic on cruises in Russia up to 40% in 2022

The growth of passenger traffic on cruises in Russia in 2022 increased by 30-40%. About it told Aleksey Volotskov, head of the working group for the development of river, cruise and yacht tourism of the State Duma Tourism Committee, in a commentary to TASS.

“In terms of cruise tourism in 2022, growth [пассажиропотока] was very serious. For different cruise companies, this growth was from 30% to 40%,” he said.

Volotskov associated the growth of this indicator with the limitation of opportunities for recreation abroad and increased awareness of the population about this type of recreation. Volotskov added that now many carriers are repairing their liners and this year they will increase the number of flights, and also start navigation earlier, which will increase passenger traffic by another 20% by the end of the year.

The concept for the development of cruise tourism until 2024 in Russia was approved by the Government of the Russian Federation in early February 2022. The document provides for the development of cruise tourism infrastructure and the improvement of state support measures for enterprises involved in its creation. In addition, as part of the concept, it is planned to expand the route network of Russian cruises, including in the Arctic, Siberia and the Far East. The authorities also expect to create new excursion programs with visits to specially protected natural areas and develop cruise destinations for children.
