The State Duma adopted a law on fines of up to 1.5 million rubles. for data processing violation

The State Duma, in the third reading, adopted a law on toughening penalties for violating the placement of biometric personal data. Among the authors bill the chairman of the lower house of parliament Vyacheslav Volodin, his deputy Irina Yarovaya, as well as the leaders of four political factions are indicated.

The law provides for fines for illegal posting and updating of personal data from 100 thousand to 300 thousand rubles. for officials, from 500 thousand to 1 million rubles. for organizations. For collecting biometric data without consent, officials face a fine of 100 thousand to 300 thousand rubles, legal entities – from 300 thousand to 700 thousand rubles. In case of repeated violation, the maximum fine will be 1.5 million rubles.

From the explanatory note it follows that the purpose of the bill is “to protect the biometric personal data of citizens, as well as to prevent administrative offenses.” Experts interviewed by Kommersant believe that fines will have a negative impact on small and medium-sized enterprises.
