Russian President Vladimir Putin and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev made statement following the results of today’s negotiations with the Kremlin. During the meeting, it was decided to launch supplies of Russian gas to Uzbekistan in transit through Kazakhstan. At the same time, part of the gas will be supplied to Kazakhstan itself. According to Vladimir Putin, the solemn ceremony for the start of deliveries will take place on October 7. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will take part in it.

“This is happening for the first time in the entire history of the existence of these transport systems. Gas of Russian production and Russian origin has never been sent from Russia to Central Asia,” said the Russian president (quoted by Interfax). He noted that the parties agreed on deliveries as soon as possible.

On June 16, within the framework of SPIEF-2023, Chairman of the Board of Gazprom Alexey Miller and Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov signed agreement for the supply of Russian gas to the republic. Then it was reported that deliveries would begin on October 1. The contract itself was concluded for two years, and the annual supply volume will be 2.8 billion cubic meters. m. As part of the forum, Gazprom also signed an agreement with the Kazakh QazaqGaz, under which the company will transport natural gas from the Russian Federation to consumers in Uzbekistan. In November 2022 Russia spoke about plans to create a “triple gas alliance” with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
