The songs of artists-foreign agents stopped playing on the air of rock radio stations

Listeners of a number of major rock radio stations may have noticed that recently the songs of a number of performers recognized as foreign agents in Russia have disappeared from the airwaves. We are talking about the tracks of Boris Grebenshchikov and Aquarium, Time Machine, Zemfira, Bi-2, Maxim Pokrovsky (all these artists have the status of foreign agents, and their attempts to challenge it in court ended in vain).
No official statements have been made in this regard, however, over the past week, not a single song from the repertoire of musicians with the status of foreign agents has been played on the air of one of the most popular rock radio stations.
The cleansing of the ether has only a formal character so far. The hits of the artists, whose position on the CBO may not coincide with the official one, but who are not included in the list of foreign agents, still remain in the playlists.
In private conversations, everyone who is involved in the formation of the radio repertoire policy admits that such censorship of the air causes an ambiguous reaction and creates certain difficulties. The Russian rock market can hardly be called saturated with artists of this genre, and the rejection of songs that have been familiar to several generations clearly impoverishes music broadcasting.
The ban on compositions by foreign agents is very likely connected not only with ideological instructions, but also with potential difficulties both in processing royalties in the light of the fact that the commercial activities of persons with the corresponding status are significantly limited, and in the mandatory labeling of tracks.
After the start of CBO, some media groups explained the refusal to air the songs of artists with an unpatriotic position by the fact that public interest in these stars had disappeared. This argument seems to be quite controversial. After all, there are still quite a few hits from “dissenters” on the rock air, and these tracks, apparently, are important for maintaining the rating of stations.
