The plot of the series “Dyldy”

“Dyldy” is a Russian comedy show about a provincial women’s volleyball team and their eccentric coach who wants to make the girls the first champions of all of Russia. The story was based on the biography of the famous coach Nikolai Vasilyevich Karpol, although the creators added a lot of their own material to it.

The series premiered in 2019. At the moment, it already consists of two full seasons, and the release of the third continues. This show has become one of the most successful television projects in Russia over the past 5 years.

Once upon a time, Mikhail Kovalev was a young promising volleyball player who was predicted to have a bright future as the champion of the best sports clubs in Russia. However, fate was cruel to him – the guy did not come out tall. Therefore, Misha had to put aside his sports uniform and pick up the coach’s whistle.

Years passed, and Kovalev managed to get into a coaching position in the Dynamo volleyball team. It seemed that life was finally beginning to take shape. But along with short stature, our hero also received a whole mountain of complexes. He hated all women because they often mocked him. The coach began to fall into one sexist scandal after another, until finally the management kicked him out of his job.

Having sunk to the very bottom, Mikhail nevertheless received one last chance from fate. The rector of a small university in his native provincial town invited him to become a coach of a student volleyball team. Kovalev seized this opportunity and instantly rushed to his native land. Only now no one told him that this team is women’s.

Actors of the series “Dyldy”

The main decoration of the whole show, of course, is the popular actor Pavel Derevyanko. It was he who played the role of negligent Mikhail Kovalev. To date, Pavel is one of the highest paid actors in Russia. The TV series The Nine Lives of Nestor Makhno, House Arrest and the film The Brest Fortress brought him particular popularity. However, Derevianko did not agree to participate in the creation of Dyld at all immediately: “By that time, the wonderful Legend No. 17 and Movement Up had already come out. I was afraid that it would be some kind of sports speculation. Thought it was going to be something really weird. And only when Semyon Slepakov called and asked at least to try, I agreed. As a result, I read the script with pleasure and did not understand why I was so stoked earlier.

The captain of the women’s volleyball team, Christina, who in the course of the story will have to confront Kovalev more than once because of his sexist views, was embodied on the screen by actress Angelina Poplavskaya. Many viewers may know her thanks to the TV series Bad Weather. According to Angelina, unlike his hero, Derevyanko really became a real teacher for all young actresses on the set: “Paul was an assistant and adviser, he literally became our family. The shooting went on in a family way, in a kind way. We’ve got a real team.”

Also in the third season of the series, you can see Anastasia Stezhko, who will play the coach of the beach volleyball team, who decided to challenge Kovalev. Some may remember Anastasia from the romantic series The Way Through the Snow. About the third season of “Dyld”, the actress says: “In terms of humor and style, the viewer will see everything that he used to see in previous seasons. But in the third season, the picture will be brighter, warmer, more dynamic. In terms of storyline, there will be more changes for the main character, the series will get more emotional depth.”
