Russian Ambassador to Turkey Alexey Erkhov reported that there are serious problems with bank transfers between countries. He added that work to eliminate them is taking place at a bilateral level.

“We confirm the existence of serious problems in the field of bank transfers in the interests of Russian and Turkish participants in foreign economic activity. The necessary work to resolve the difficulties that have arisen is being carried out at the bilateral level. Somewhere there is progress, somewhere the situation still remains extremely difficult,” Mr. Erkhov told the agency TASS.

He did not talk about the work being done in more detail. According to him, this information could be used by “ill-wishers who seek to undermine mutually beneficial Russian-Turkish cooperation.”

According to Kommersant, the situation with bank transfers began to become complicated in the summer of 2023. In December, Turkish banks began to refuse to work with Russian ones, fearing sanctions.
