On the eve of the long weekend, the ruble sharply strengthened its position against the world’s leading currencies. As a result of trading on the Moscow Exchange on Friday, the dollar and euro fell by more than 1 ruble, to the lows since the beginning of the month. At the same time, the volume of trading in dollars with delivery “tomorrow” reached 166 billion rubles, the maximum value since the beginning of the year. This was facilitated by the sale of foreign exchange earnings by exporters who withheld it until the last day of paying taxes, as well as the closing of long positions in foreign currency.
