The volume of the rice harvest harvested in the Kuban in 2022 amounted to 650 thousand tons, which is 28% less than in 2021. As vice-governor Andrei Korobka noted, the decrease was due to an accident at the Fedorovsky hydroelectric complex, the water from which is used for rice fields in the Abinsk region.
In 2021, 917 thousand tons of crops were harvested in the Krasnodar Territory. Due to the consequences of the accident at the Fedorovsky hydroelectric complex, the sown areas of crops decreased by 25%. According to the Southern Rice Union, during the 2022 sowing campaign, 90,000 hectares were used for rice. instead of 119 thousand hectares. Despite the decline in the yield, the share of rice harvested in the region exceeds 70% of the national figure. In total, 15.7 million tons of grain and leguminous crops were harvested in the Krasnodar Territory in 2022.
The accident at the Fedorovsky hydroelectric complex occurred in April of this year. According to the prosecutor’s office of the region, the reason was the decision of the deputy director of the Federal State Budgetary Institution Kubanmeliovodkhoz to let water into the irrigation system despite the emergency state of the dam. The flood destroyed the reclamation structure. On this fact, a criminal case was initiated against the deputy director of the institution under Art. 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (abuse of power with causing grave consequences). The case file has been submitted to the court. The reconstruction of the facility is estimated at 7.3 billion rubles.
