In Russia, specialized stores of South Korean LG, German Bosch and Japanese Sony have begun to close, Kommersant has found out. Sales points of Turkish and Chinese suppliers are already opening in place of the stores of the departed companies.
Kommersant learned that at the beginning of February 2024, LG and Sony stores closed in the Afimall City shopping center in Moscow. LG technical support told Kommersant that the brand’s stores were closed “due to a stop in supplies.” According to information on the LG website, the company had four stores in Moscow. A Grundig store (owned by the Turkish Arcelik) will open in March in place of the South Korean vendor.
A similar reason for the closure of stores in the Afimall City shopping center was given by Sony support operator. Three more Sony retail outlets in Moscow will remain open until the summer to sell off stock. “Previously, there was a Sony Center in every million-plus city in the Russian Federation, but due to sanctions they are all closing,” a Sony support operator told Kommersant.
Many foreign electronics brands, including LG, Sony and Bosch, began freezing supplies to Russia after the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine. According to market participants, retail partners of foreign manufacturers have long refused to close stores in order to avoid fines from landlords.
