The Region group of Sergey Sudarikov will build a clinic for the treatment of children in Moscow

The Region group of Sergey Sudarikov, which has assets in the pharmaceutical industry, intends to build a private multifunctional clinic in Moscow to treat children with epilepsy. Experts estimate the cost of the project at 3 billion rubles. However, they warn that such investments will be difficult to recoup without paying for treatment at the rates of compulsory medical insurance or other state support.

Moskomstroyinvest recently announced that the design and construction of a multifunctional medical center for 16 thousand square meters. m in the Danilovsky district in the south of Moscow will be engaged in MISP LLC. This structure, established in April 2023, belongs to Sergei Sudarikov’s IC “Region”, discovered “Kommersant” in the Unified State Register of Legal Entities. The Region declined to comment.

So far, the company has not had medical centers, but it has expressed interest in such projects. So, back in 2019, Inmedico LLC, owned by the Region’s structures, planned to conclude a concession agreement with the Ministry of Health for the construction of a children’s multidisciplinary high-tech clinic. The company managed to develop a business model for the project, conduct engineering surveys and pre-project work. But whether a concession agreement was eventually concluded with the ministry is unknown. The Ministry of Health did not respond to Kommersant’s request.

The Inmedico project is similar in its direction to the clinic designed by IISP. The center plans to conduct a comprehensive examination of patients, provide “conservative and surgical treatment for patients with epilepsy,” Moskomstroyinvest said. They will also deal with the problems and features of the development of the child’s brain. Inmedico in 2020-2021 registered the trademarks Neurounique – the center of the children’s brain, Neodeti smart clinic, Extraordinary children smart clinic, as well as the domains extraordinary children.rf and neurounique.ru.

Initially, the clinic for the conservative and surgical treatment of epilepsy was a concession project of the Pirogov National Medical and Medical Center. Region was also interested in participating in it, the industry publication Vademecum reported earlier. At that time, investments in the clinic on the territory of the NMHC itself were estimated at 3.5 billion rubles. The construction of a medical center in the Danilovsky district may cost the Region 3-3.2 billion rubles, Vladimir Geraskin, a partner at the medical consulting company DMG, calculated.

He calls the direction itself promising, because there are not so many effective methods of treating epilepsy. But the throughput of such a building is large, and there are few patients with this disease, even fewer solvent ones, since we are talking about expensive operations, Mr. Geraskin emphasizes.

In Russia, the prevalence of epilepsy is 3.4 cases per 1,000 people over 14 years of age. Therefore, for the payback of such a project, the Region will need state co-financing, for example, in the form of payment for treatment at the rates of compulsory medical insurance or quotas allocated for high-tech medical care at the expense of state funds, Mr. Geraskin notes. He believes that the center can be focused not only on Russians, but also on patients from neighboring countries.

“Region” is not a newcomer to the healthcare market. Since 2020, the company owns 16.99% in Samson-Med (a manufacturer of medicines and dietary supplements). Together with the founder of the Rossium concern, Roman Avdeev, Sergey Sudarikov also owns the pharmaceutical distributor GDP through a chain of legal entities since 2022.

Among all pharmaceutical manufacturers, only Protek has a clinic: in 2020, it acquired the Atlas Medical Center. Investing in this segment is a logical option for the development of the group and scaling through entering a related field, says Nikolay Bespalov, RNC Pharma Development Director. Region’s competencies in the pharmaceutical market allow the group to calculate the prospects for a project in the field of medical services, believes Sergey Shulyak, CEO of DSM Group. The choice of a narrow specialization of the medical center suggests that the investors have worked through the project and, probably, enlisted the support of specialists, he believes. According to Mr. Bespalov, private medicine is a relatively stable and rapidly growing area of ​​the healthcare system.
